A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Welcome! Welcome to our website and, if you are new to the area, welcome to New Canaan.

The New Canaan Men’s Club was founded in 1977 by a group of men who met regularly at the YMCA to play racquetball. While the Club has grown since then, providing friendship and fellowship to members remains a core mission of our Club. We meet on Friday mornings in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, but we are nonreligious, nonpartisan, as well as a non-profit community organization (501(c)(3). Each Friday meeting has a speaker covering interesting and often a timely topic.

Next Meeting – Friday, March 28, 2025

Bill Lucey, Soundkeeper

Saving the Sound through Protection, Restoration, and Policy

Bill Lucey is the Soundkeeper at Save the Sound, advocating for water quality and the fisheries to benefit both the people and the Sound itself.

After serving in the Peace Corps in Guatemala as a fisheries extension agent, Bill went on to work in Alaska for 20 years. There, he worked as a federal biologist, a municipal biologist/coastal planner, as well as a commercial salmon and halibut fisherman. He helped restore salmon rivers, upgrade fish related infrastructure and promoted beneficial fisheries policies at the state and federal level.

His dual career as a biologist and a commercial fisherman uniquely qualifies him as the Soundkeeper, seeking to protect the LI Sound.

Mr. Lucey received a BS in fisheries biology from the University of VT and a graduate certificate from the University of Oregon in fisheries management.
