A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Welcome! Welcome to our website and, if you are new to the area, welcome to New Canaan.

The New Canaan Men’s Club was founded in 1977 by a group of men who met regularly at the YMCA to play racquetball. While the Club has grown since then, providing friendship and fellowship to members remains a core mission of our Club. We meet on Friday mornings in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, but we are nonreligious, nonpartisan, as well as a non-profit community organization (501(c)(3). Each Friday meeting has a speaker covering interesting and timely topics that entertain, educate and inspire us.

Dr. Luizzi, New Canaan Public School Superintendent

Annual Update on New Canaan Schools

In 2011, Dr. Luizzi joined the New Canaan Public Schools as Principal of New Canaan High School, where he served for three years before being appointed as the District’s Superintendent in 2014.

As New Canaan Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Luizzi has overseen the implementation of programs designed to benefit students at all grade levels, such as the district’s implementation of the RULER Approach for Emotional Intelligence, the conceptualization, development, and implementation of the high school’s alternative learning program, known as the Downtown Campus, the district’s elementary Literacy Academy, unveiled in 2022, which aims to deliver intensive, scientifically-based reading instruction to students struggling with learning to read, and the renovation of the NCHS planetarium into The Dome, an immersive learning theater designed to serve all grades K-12.

In addition to his program work, Dr. Luizzi has also continued to keep the district at the height of innovation, overseeing building updates to each of the district’s schools, including three outdoor learning centers at East and West Elementary schools and Saxe Middle School, Saxe’s Design Lab, a center of innovation for the middle school’s STEM-related classes, and the high school’s Makerspace and Virtual Reality Lab, all of which are forward-thinking spaces that allow students to create, problem solve and learn utilizing today’s modern technology.

Dr. Luizzi earned his bachelor’s degree in English Education from Clemson University, his master’s degree in Educational Technology from Western Connecticut State, his advanced degree in Educational Administration from Sacred Heart University, and his Doctor of Education degree from the Teachers College at Columbia University.
